Abbie and the toad

Last week when I got home I noticed a rather large toad in the garage.  So of course I wanted Abbie to see it.  That’s more than half the fun of having a 2 year old around – to see how she reacts to things and to show her things for the first time.
Abbie was very interested in the toad, but she really didn’t want to get all that close to it.  She actually touched it a few times, but if it moved towards her even a little bit, she was backing up.

He was pretty big and he peed all over my mom, like they normally do.  There have been numerous times I’ve gone around toads in our driveway to avoid smushing them and when I come home at night I’m always careful where I step so I don’t step on one of them.

Luckily my mom likes picking them up so I didn’t have to, but I would have picked it up to show Abbie if my mom hadn’t been around.  My dad brought in a tiny garter snake the other day to show Abbie and I definitely would NOT have picked that thing up.  I’m not too big on snakes…  Or spiders.  Or anything scarier than a toad.  Truth be told, I was pretty nervous to pick up the hummingbird that got stuck in the garage this summer.
